Russian Visa in Mongolia
For all those who are wondering if it's possible to get a Russian visa in Ulaanbaatar, it is. I went to the Embassy today (I'm American) and they said they can issue transit visas to Kazakhstan (usually 7-8 days) or a 30 day tourist visa. Both have a 4 day processing time. I did not yet apply as you need the original paperwork for your vehicle which I do not yet have, but I don't anticipate any difficulties once I have the paperwork.
You don't need anything but your passport and a proposed rout to get the transit visa. For the tourist visa I was a bit confused whether you can apply on your own or not but there are several tourist companies in town that will take care of the paperwork for you (the Russian officials said that would be better than bringing paperwork in myself). I called Passport Travel and they can assist with tourist visas. Their email is passporttravel@mobinet.mn
