South Africa - Customs refuse to stamp my carnet out!
Sorry guys for the late answer!
This might become useful to others.
I finally got the bike out of South Africa after 3 weeks or so struggling with the customs. The shipping company did not know what to do about it. First when I contacted the Automobile Organization for South Africa, things started to happen and then it then went fast. Things was cleared in matter of a couple of days.
I was told that normally there are no problems with the customs in Cape Town, but it can be different with Durban.
But the company and the in Cape Town are awesome ;oP

my carnet expired while i was in namibia, so rather than cross into SA with an expired carnet, i had it stamped OUT of namibia, then got SA customs to give me a temp. import document.
however - the shipping agent says they need a valid carnet, and RACQ (issuing body) say australian customs need the carnet to be valid until the bike clears customs in australia.
1. whats the best shipping agent in cape town (or durban)
2. AASA is in jo'burg - long way from cape town. do i have to do the substitution form to get the carnet extended? i thought i just needed a stamp on the cover of the carnet
3. any other ideas? anyone shipped out WITHOUT using the carnet at all?
thanks
