Travel Insurance, not fit for purpose
I've been looking around various sites and comparing travel insurance. It seems that the vast majority of it just isn't fit for purpose for overland travellers.
Firstly there is the difficulty in finding policies that include motorcycles over 50cc. Nothing new there it's well documented. Then there is the whole riding off-road issue.
Another issue is that even if you purchase backpacker or long stay insurance for a year, it's not valid unless you have a return ticket. This is a problem for overlanders that are going for an undetermined amount of time though likely less than a year.
Of course you can buy open return tickets, which cost a lot more, but they still limit you to flying back from the same airport.
Not a great state of affairs for those considering travel insurance.
Moan over. ;-)
