UK passport

Do any of you UK citizens out there hold a spare passport ? If so how did you obtain it ?
I have just spoken to the passport office and was told that it is not possible to have two, after reading on here ( before I called them ) it seemed that it would not be a problem, but unless I can prove that I am crossing borders that are problematic for BUSINESS they will not issue a second passport and to top it all they take all your details before they answer any questions so now it's all on record
I knew I should of just told them it had been destroyed/lost

I do have two, but got my 2nd through business. But it wasn't the fact that I had troublesome borders, it was that I was travelling regularly on my initial passport (between UK and Ireland) and told them I had to apply for multiple visas. All I needed was a supporting letter from my employer confirming this.

I was a IT contractor, so just asked my agency to write a letter on headed paper. The passport came within 7 days of applying ........and cost £80 or there abouts .......

Ditto above.
I was travelling a lot as part of a job and needed time to get visas but still be travelling. So my company wrote a nice headed letter detailing that.
Then I had no problem.

I'll third that. Just filled out another Passport application form from the post office with a supporting letter (headed paper from work) stating I was travelling with work and needed another passport due to visas etc.

Came the following week - paid the normal fee - 50GBP I think.

I obtained a second passport prior to my trip with no employer input.

I basically explained the problems with obtaining visas to which they replied I could carry a photocopy whilst awaiting the visa.

I was then advised by a helpful lady at the passport office who asked for a letter documenting the countries I would be travelling through - it was approved the follwing day.

Good luck

I have been looking at the second passport option as well. One question for those of you have used it on the road - did you encounter a situation where it raised eyebrows at the borders either because you have a second passport or if you just showed one, then you were missing an exit stamp from the country you were coming from (because you had used the other passport)?

Thanks

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
