2 choices as I see it..
1) Spend the shipping money on a secondhand bike in the US ... and then sell it as you leave for not much money.
2) When you get to Alaska (or where ever) take the bike to a wrecker and ask them if they would take it as a wreck... if they will (and they probably will for bugger all money) go to the customs people and have them agree to have your bike written off as an import of parts .. need to do this well before you leave so best to have it organised when you first hit Alaska, hopefully the parts price you get will equal the customs fees  ... if not ... well it just fell down the cliff
