Alternative shipping from India to Thailand
We're in Pakistan and a fellow traveller has told us that we can't get to Nepal which was where we intended to travel with our bikes to Bangkok. Is there another way, ie cheaper, more convenient, easier, safer, better or even possible way to get there is we can't get into Nepal? He says they close the roads due to heavy snow. Don't know if he's right but probably best to ask if there are alternatives.
Cheers

Yes, you could ship from any big city in India, where there are flights or shipfreight connections to Thailand (or Malaysia.. and I assume you have the carnet, so you could send there as well). Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, probably Kolkata and many others, too.
The downside is, that it´s in many ways a bureaucratic nightmare to ship out of India – and I have firsthand experience, because I did that by air from Chennai 4 years ago. Do-able, but extremely frustrating
(actually that is why many seem to prefer to ship from/to Nepal rather than India).
I haven´t followed the situation in Nepal, and have no experience from Nepal myself.... but that snow thing does sound a bit strange. Even if it´s true, it probably affects certain areas, and not the whole country.
edit. our shipping from Chennai in -08 explained here (at the end of the 1st part - sorry there´s still some Finnish in between, but shipping stuff is fully in English):

Snow? Where? We are right now in Kathmandu. It's around 25 degrees during the day and it gets around 15 degrees in the evening. Didn't see any snow on our way. I Think you need to go to the mountain passes to find it... Wouldn't miss Nepal. After India it's very relaxed..

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
