Bangkok Air Cargo
Hello travellers,
This may be old news but I thought I would let you know what I just found.
I contacted Mr. Barry Crawford at East West Shipping about flying my bike to Nepal. Mr. Crawford was recommended in at least one shipping summary on this web site. Mr. Crawford told me that because of an explosion at the Bangkok airport several years ago, he was no longer able to ship motorcycles by air. He said that he's tried several times and has been unsuccessful each time. He also said that "it wasn't worth it" for him to keep trying. He suggested that I ride back to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore to ship my bike, since I was "travelling already"!
As you might imagine, I was not too pleased with this information, seeing as I just came from Singapore and KL!
I called my second contact, the local agent for Hellman's Shipping (Hellman's shipped my bike from Darwin to Singapore quite smoothly and cheaply). This gentleman said that he just air shipped a big BMW from Bangkok to Nepal last month without any problems. I made a quick visit to his office and got started with the shipping paperwork for when I return to Bangkok at the end of the month. I'll post my information to the shipping page at that time.
From my discussion with Mr. Crawford I can only assume that he's no longer interested in shipping motorcycles by air. This may change again, but until then someone may want to add notes to the shipping page, to prevent more calls to Mr. Crawford.
Safe travels.
