If you enter Ägypt you allready have to have the Visa (100 US$ for german passport holders at the home embassy). Then you have to get a Ensurance and arabic Numberplates. Therefore you have to leave a caution. All together we spent about 300.- Euro each entering Egypt from Jordan on Motorbikes...

Still have fun, Tobi

Thumbs down

I suspect there will be more costs involved at the airport. Sorry I cann't help with details, but there were some entertaining South African nutbags that came through a few years ago. They are on here sometimes, but I can't remember the username.

They were doing Cairo to Cape Town at a crazy pace, not helped by their first fundamental error......

DO NOT FLY YOUR BIKE INTO CAIRO DURING RAMADAN. I think it took them 2 weeks to clear the bikes.

JT,

Well that is a NASTY DEVELOPMENT as we are arriving end of Aug. Ramadan only finishes on about 12th Sep. Can you remember the reason it took so long.
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

Sorry, cann't remember the details, but basically, pretty much everything stops in Ramadan, and is closed during the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan. Office hours are very limited and unreliable, and without being rude, there's a certain lethargy. As you'd expect I imagine, given the fasting and late night eating, not to mention the heat. Ramadan in August, now that's pretty tough I reckon.

Maybe things have improved from a few years ago, but I really wouldn't bank on it. I put the previous guys in touch with someone in the business (customs clearance) and it was still a massive pain for them.

I'll ask around a bit. How late in August were you planning on arriving, and how many bikes? ( and what bikes for that matter ?)

JT,
The bikes are (3) F650gs Twins & (1) xt 250.
We have everything booked so we have to go at this time, so we will be
packing a couple of extra bags of patience.
