Cuba in February?

Hi Mark,

Well we could see what interest we can stir up for a trip in February...I suspect if there are 6 or more of us we could get some pretty good terms from Ludvig on Stahlratte (steel rat). My preference is to pay only for transport and accommodations/meals on the boat while shipping to Cuba and back. Maybe Ludvig could get a mixed passenger compliment who would be bike-less and want to stay on the boat, visit ports like other cruise tourists too. If we have some numbers (6+ bikers I suspect) we could probably negotiate better...for me $1,200 to $1,800 would be good for return trip Panama to Cuba giving at least 3 weeks down on the island (I could do without the Jamaica part myself because all that makes for a much lengthier/expensive trip, especially if a couple days in San Blas Islands are thrown into the mix. On the other hand having the option of landing in Colombia or Panama on the way back would be attractive too.
What you think? Other folks interested give us a heads-up.
Cheers
Larry

could look at shipping mexico-cuba too...

for those who don't want to ride all the way to Panama to ship to CUba (especially if you have already been through Central America), and if there are at least 6 people interested, it could be feasible to ship out from Yucatan or other Caribbean port in in Mexico too. Maybe with Ludvig or someone else...

Hi mcgiggle,

Hope your friends have more luck than I did. If a few precedents can be set, we may eventually have another way to ship our bikes.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for your info and ideas, but I think I am going to have to ride Cuba another time. I can only afford so much time and money and both would be going over budget if I took the time to ride Cuba with you. We need to leave another seed to sew at a later date. Good luck with your trip.

Regards
Mark

South America shipping

Dear Mark,
We are in Ecuador about to start our trip, unfortunately, we have been forced to change our plans and will probably have to ship our bike to Chile from Ecuador or vice versa. I would love to chat with you to get some advice, seeing that you are soon leaving and probably have a lot of information. Would you be up for helping us?
Saludos!
Margarita

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
