Back in 2003 I had organized my bike to be air shipped to San Francisco from Ulan Batar, It never arrived there, their excuse was that there were no cargo plane, eventually they sent it by train to Beijing then by air to SF, 7 weeks later.
My recommandation would be to stay in Ulan Batar until you are sure that your bike is back in the UK.
Good luck

July 2007 I was there and tried to
help a couple Dutch bikers ship their bikes out of Mongolia. Your best bet air freight wise is to work with Air China or Air Japan.
Find a travel agent who will book you passenger ticket and will help you book your bike as well. Air China has an air cargo service as does Korean Air in UB. DHL is there as well BUT may be very expensive...
If not, you can send it in a container to China and then by boat to the UK...about 1-2 months of passage.
Ask Rene at Oasis campement in UB.

When I was at Oasis somewhere October last year there was a German couple that put both their bikes in a seacontainer which eventually made it way to a port in china and further by ship. As the container is quite expensive they stuffed their container with a couple of yurts tent to sell back home. Really you need the help
of Rene who will refer you in the right direction and knows when to pay bakshies...
The Dutchies that MotoEdde is refering to did the same thing with the yurts.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
