Munich to Phoenix and back!!

Hi all,

Firstly an apology... this is the first time I've ever tried to ship my bike anywhere and whilst it's exciting, it's also a little daunting, so please forgive me if I am asking really stupid questions... I have tried to do a little reseach before posting... honest!!

Right, I am planning to do 3 months around the USA from May to July inclusive next year! Therefore I would like to ship my bike (2006 Honda ST1300ABS) from Munich to Phoenix in Arizona, to arrive on the 30th April or 1st of May, and then return from Az to Munich around the 30th/31st July.

I was therefore thinking air freight out and sea freight back, as it doesn't matter if the bike takes 6 weeks to get back after the trip!!

Can anyone recommend a cheap company for this??
I've never crated the bike before, so would either prefer to have someone do this or send it un-crated!!

Any tips, links, help, advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all in advance.
Jason

2006 I flew my bike down to Cape Town. The cheapeast offer of my own flight plus bike freight was with LTU. They engage a bike freighter called "Bike & Fly". I was very pleased with their service.

I checked LTU for flights to the States, but it seems they don't cover that area themselves, but co-operate with Air Berlin. Check airberlin.com - Flight Fares to LA seem to be pretty low from Munich. No flights to Phoenix though.

Alternatively you could contact Fly & Bike directly for a quote: Motorradreisen und Motorradtransport mit der fly & bike Reise GmbH

Good luck!
Hans

Hi Jason,

hope you know that it´s gonna be about 3.000€ round trip by plane. Reliable companies is- as mentioned - fly & bike (they´re actually in ottobrunn next to munich) and Also Bikeworld in Detmold is very reliable. They do the crating and the paperwork. Phoenix shouldn´t be a Problem. For shipping back by sea Olaf Kleinknecht from in time in Hamburg is highly recommended. And if you need to insure your bike I´d check tourInsure, also located in Hamburg. They specialized in insuring german registered bikes in the US.

Anyways, enjoy your trip

Mike

Motorcycle Express

We used Motorcycle Express to fly from Calgary, Alberta to Munich. One way it was $1,700 U.S. No crating needed.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
