New Estonia-Finland Ferries, and Free Bike Shipping on Tallink Silja

First off, a bit of news that may be useful: there is a new vehicle ferry line between Estonia and Finland. It runs between the port of Muuga (east of Tallinn) to the port of Vuosaari (east of Helsinki).

There are two companies operating this route:
* Eckerö Line
* Tallink Silja

There's also a little-known ferry route between Paldiski (significantly west of Tallinn) and Hanko (the southwestern tip of Finland). Pro tip: the Pakri peninsula north of Paldiski is a great place to wild-camp.

So if you don't want to deal with city-center traffic, you have options now.

---

Second bit - I guess this has not been stickied anywhere yet, so maybe the mods can sticky this thread? - is how to take your motorcycle across the Baltic Sea for free, on any Tallink Silja ferry. I've tested this personally on Tallinn-Aland-Stockholm and Tallinn-Helsinki routes.

1. Go to tallinksilja.de. This is important. Won't work on their other sites.
2. Make your booking. Under "Fahrzeug", make sure you choose "Motorrad".

(Pro tip: on an overnight crossing, you can get cheap individual berths in shared cabins under the "Spezial Kabinen & Geteilte Plätze" semi-hidden section!)

3. Look for "Ich habe einen gutschein" in the right-hand sidebar.
4. Enter the discount code 95845.
5. Voila! Your motorcycle spot on the ferry now costs €0.

Note: This is a discount negotiated by Louis.de, a big German online retailer and chain of motorcycle stores. Show them some appreciation: if you're riding through Germany, stop by one of their stores and buy a can of chain lube or something.

This is true with an asterisk. Most RMK sites are super well equipped and well maintained, but full of loud assholes who went there because they are not allowed to party in their own yards any more. :P

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
