OZ to NZ and then to USA
We are in Oz at the moment and will be going to NZ in early November. We will then go to San Francisco USA in early December. A few questions:-
1. Is it cheaper to ship from Melbourne or Sydney?
2. How long does it take by sea from Melbourne or Sydney to NZ?
3. From reading the shipping comments it seem a lot less hassle by air, does anyone have any comments.
4. Can anyone recommend a shipping agent?
5. Is it any more expensive to fly ourselves and the bike from NZ to USA than from OZ?
6. Again, can anyone recommend a shipping agent in NZ.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi, sorry to take so long to answer but I lost the info I wanted to pass on to you.
Here goes.
Contact Dave Milligan at his company called Get Routed. They ship bikes on a regular basis to NZ. Mostly from Melbourne but he also does some shipments out of Sydney as well I am lead to believe. He books the whole container so it is a group or individual type arrangement.
Sydney is the dearest port to deal with in this country when it comes to port fees, customs etc. Not sure the Melbourne is that much cheaper. They use official names for their charges rather than calling them bribes in Australia. And they do the same to us locals as well, so dont think the high charges are just for your benefit.
The web site to look up is
www.getrouted.com.au
Good Luck, Cheryl.

Thanks for the response. Like the name of the company. Any idea how long the crossing is?

Cant help you with the how long bit. The actual sea journey should only take about
4-ish days I think, but dont quote me on that. . . Cheryl.

Get a quote on the TOTAL cost of sea shipping, then do the same for air. You might be surprised.
A good friend of mine emigrated some years ago to OZ and found it cost him the same either way, so the bike went by air.
The Tasman Sea is reputedly the most expensive shipping route on the planet.
