Panama City to Bogota by air
Howdy!
A quick note: I am shipping my F650 via Girag Air Cargo from Panama City, Panama to Bogota and the all-in cost is $901.38 cash only.
You just roll up to their office at Tocumen airport (cargo section, not the passenger terminal) and leave your bike in the AM and you pick it up in Colombia the next day. Flights are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Girag does all the paperwork. Call 2384326, I spoke with Luz Edith Lopez. luz.lopez@girag.com
Cost is for bike only.

Same for me - $800 plus tax made it $901.38. I was asked to remove the mirrors and screen, although I got away with just the mirrors (the top box is higher than the screen). Luz speaks good English, which I appreciate being a Spanish speaking novice. I mapped their location here.

I'm now in Bogota. I got a taxi to the cargo terminal but the Girag office is actually across the road - 2 or so minutes walk. The Girag staff are very friendly and the customs office is at the entrance of the cargo terminal. About an hour or so later the fun begins when you gently roll your motorcycle out of the Girag office - I won't spoil the surprise. Again, I mapped their location here.

Hi tenzin,
I am also in Bogota but my bike remained in Panama! There was a problem with the plane, but the Girag staff in Bogota were most helpful, calling a hotel and organizing transport for me. I hope to bug out tomorrow for Cajamarca.
Did you find insurance at the airport anywhere?

Hi forward,
Oh no! Fingers crossed, you'll have it soon. You say Cajamarca - is that the town West of Ibague? If so, I'll be heading that way tomorrow too. It would be good to meet you.
D'oh! I didn't know insurance was required. I owe you one! I've just read some posts and it looks like there is an office in Bogota. I'll take a look tomorrow morning I guess.

Tenzin,
Yeah, that's Cajamarca. Hope to be there this evening.
My hotel is shaking, is Bogota having an earthquake?

Forward,
Not an earthquake mate. Just me and the girl I picked up last night. I only made it as far as Ibaque yesterday and today I didn't see a sign for Cajamarca. Anyway, I'm now in Cali. I'll keep my eyes open for you.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
