I have a 350 Enfield 2001 model in Rishikesh, Uttaranchal, Northern India.

i would like to ship it home from Delhi to England, if the cost is not too much. Can anyone give me any advice?

Hi Lucy, and welcome to the HUBB!

Check out this link for a shipment from Delhi to Boston from the Shipments by Travellers page (see Menu to your left for more information from the rest of the site).

Cat Syrbe shipped an Enfield from Delhi to Boston in 2001, and was satisfied with the shipper. Price for air shipment was US$350 including crating. Contact details are at the link above.

UK port charges can be quite high, so if you're deciding between air and sea, make sure you get all the costs. See this link for Richard Vir's experience of a sea shipment into the UK from Malaysia. 75% of his costs were for port charges!

As for importing and registering the bike in the UK, assuming it is an Indian registered bike, there are Customs issues and licensing / registration issues you will need to research.

Here's some links to HUBB posts to get started:

importing a bike into the UK

Carnet for Indian-bought bike

For DVLA registration, try these links:

DVLA - How do I import my vehicle into Great Britain?

DVLA - Vehicles - Import and Export

I would suggest you do your research on the customs and licensing issues before arranging the shipping, as you might find it is a lot of hassle.

Good luck and please let us know how you make out by filling in the Shipping Form for the benefit of future travellers.

Hi!
I arrived back home in Germany one month ago and shipped my BMW from Delhi to Hamburg. It took altogether 2 months and I paid 350€ for the shipping from Delhi to Germany, another 100€ Port fees (dont forget these!). Maybe little cheaper for an Enfield, the proice is dependent on the size of the crate. Used a company in Delhi, Lalli Singh, who was recommended to me, and he did a very good job, check out www.lallisingh.com. The bike will be crated, sent to Bombay and shipped by conainer from there. These guys have a lot of experience and know where to go when something is not working out, saved me a lot of hassle, I am sure.
Have fun..
Jens

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
