I'm shipping my Pan to Newark NY in May on the Ro-Ro ferry from Southampton. Cheryl recommended a firm called Master Freight Ltd - the firm they also used to ship their two bikes to Florida - and at first the price of £398 single seemed fine. Then they told me of likely charges at the US docks of $290 and that it was up to me to dispose of the expensive wooden crate it would be transported in. So I'm sticking with Wallenius Wilhelmsen at £547 and about $100 at the other end, and no crate to worry about.

Our bikes arrive in Miami today. They were off loaded in Charleston by mistake.....but that is all sorted now and we will be on the road again tomorrow.
We ended up usingMillenium Cargo Services at Sutton Coldfield as the agent and the bikes were crated at Wednesbury. The total cost door to door so to speak was 595 pound for the two Honda Shadows, all our gear inside the crates....and that included 290 pound for the crates. Not sure what we will do with the crates here yet but will sort that one out somehow. The only cost we have here in Miami is $13 US and so far the customs people have been really good as we are doing the clearing ourselves rather than use a clearing agent as was suggested. They have told us there will be no customs charges. We are doing a temporary import of the bikes.

....just a side note...it was 2 degrees C when we left Birmingham and 80 deg F when we got to Miami. Well worth the effort.

All was too easy. We are back on our bikes. Customs stamped our papers and were really helpful and quick. Cleared the paperwork our selves and did not have to pay a cent.
The shipping agent made a space for us to unpack the crates and get the bike back into a riding condition. They gave us coffee as well......Cuban Coffee......just the thing for a quick fix. They also waived the $13 charge that we should have paid......the guy we dealt with rides a Honda Shadow!!!!!!!
Florida here we come.
Almost forgot. They said just leave the crates and bubble wrap....they would gt rid of it for us.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
