Vancouver, Canada -----> Perth WA, Australia - Advice needed!

I've been having trouble finding anyone who can help me ship my motorcycle from Vancouver to Perth WA. Air Canada only ships to the east coast of Australia and quoted me over 5 grand. So im thinking Sea freight would be the better option as time is not an issue for me at all. I've made posts on various other shipping websites with no replies back. I was hoping someone on here might be able to offer some advice on the best way to go about shipping my bike on this route. Thanks for taking the time
-Matt

Hi Matt,

It was over 4 years ago now, but I shipped my KLR from Vancouver to Bangkok using Transgroup: TransGroup Locations Contact

I crated the motorbike myself and dropped it off in Richmond, and a month later it appeared in a port in Bangkok.

I also got a quote from Pacific Overseas, although they now seem to be called PCB Freight Management: https://www.pcbfreight.com
They ended up having some issues organizing the destination in Thailand though.

If I remember correctly, I think I just found the online yellow pages for shipping in Vancouver and started calling them in a random order until someone said they would be willing to do it.

Also, you probably know this, but Australia has very strict rules for how vehicles have to be professionally steam cleaned or they won't let them into the country. They are an isolated environment, and they don't want any unfamiliar organisms hitching a ride on your bike.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Cheers,
Dominik.

Alternative Approach

Hi Matt,

I am planning on the other direction, so you might apply this.

Ride your bike down to San Francisco - 16 hours. Pack it and send it to Sydney via Worldwide Customs & Forwarding Agents by Air (I was quoted just over $2600 for my Multistrada). Local cross country shipping is between $600 and $800 from Sydney to Perth (I am riding this though)

Hope this helps

Brett

Not sure if I can help, but 5 grand does sound a bit steep. Finding the right freight agent, who knows what they're doing, seems to be the trick. LCL seafreight should be relatively cheap, but you need to crate the bike. And plan around 2 months transit time. On seafreight, delays can easily be counted in weeks. That's actually its biggest minuses - if air shipment gets delayed, that's usually just hours, or a few days.

Remember the vehicle has to be CLEAN AS NEW!! when you want to import it to Oz, they are really strict about this, and if they have any complaints about cleanliness, you will reach very deep into your pocket (and wait a bit more, too).. I took my MC from Bali to Perth by air 9 years ago.
