Two-up Tiger

Erm, has anyone done any great distances with the 'Tiger' two-up?

If so, how did you both fare? Not to be confused with the standard 'numb-bum' but as a general observation is the bike up to it?

Yes, we did 60K km in one year on a '98 Tiger.

What Tiger do you ride? New? Old?

Our "old" Tiger took quite a beating with broken engine mounts twice, broken stock shock, worn down valves twice, worn generator spline, etc etc.

Other than that it was the perfect tool for the job. Comfy like nothing else. It's still running and in daily use, so there's a lot of good things to say about it as well...

My wife and I did 7000km on our 955i including 3 days on the motorway all the way up from the southernmost point of Sicily to Andorra. We had 2 Givi 41 litre side-cases and a large dry-bag on the rack.
The Tiger was very comfortable, even on the motorway. There is adequate wind protection and the large tank protects your knees from getting wet, up to a certain point. My wife said it was excellent - she could move up and down on the rear seat and rest her back against the dry-bag. We often logged 10 hours in a day and weren't too knackered afterwards.
The Tiger performed well and with its effortless power is very easy and relaxing to ride. Handling is excellent - we had 50kg of luggage (after leaving Andorra!) and it was really no problem even in the tightest French Alp mountain passes.
Next month we'll be going to Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Yeah, well I'm doing the comparo between the 'Panzer' (R11xxGS) and the Tiger, the Tiger feels 'right' for me compared to the Panzer (I'm 176 cm, so a bit short in the leg department).

Anywho, I digress, the reason for the two-up is as we all know if the passenger is uncomfy then it's going to be a trip from hell.

Then there's the aftermarket products, lots for the Panzer little for the Tiger, that's my observation anyway.

Hi, done one 5000 mile trip on the tig and one 4000 mile trip both with pillion and luggage, the first was three weeks UK to Tunisia and back the second two weeks to Spain and back, the Tig is good two up, handles everything from motorways to corrugatted dirt tracks, didnt take it on any deep sand but it would probably be OK but its not my favourite road surface and tend to avoid it if possible, I have an intercom so if the "cook" is uncomfortable she soon lets me know and she loves it, we are off to Croatia and Bosnia soon as I get back from Ozz.

Tiger two-up

Hey Macca,
I have a 2005 Tiger 955 and have done a few long trips with no regrets (Alabama to California and Alabama to Canada). I did those trips myself but I'd still like to offer some advise. I bought a Corbin seat for the Tiger, as the ridge at the split of the OE seat was right where I wanted to sit (I'm 6' 6" tall). The Corbin seat offers much more surface area for the rider and the pillion too. The Corbin however is one piece, and does away with the height adjustability. But, at my personal size, that seat is awesome. Friends who have ridden on the back of the Corbin think it's perfectly comfy, especially with a Givi topbox and backrest to lean against. If you're interested I may be able to get some side by side shots of the OE and Corbin seats.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
