Contacting other users on HU
NOTE: Due to ever-tightening Anti-spam "features" on many common mail sites such as Gmail and Yahoo, it no longer makes sense to email to other HU'ers through HU's servers, as they just get bounced, as we are not the "From" address of the user. Therefore, E-mail direct to users is now CLOSED.
Instead we have removed the minimum Private Message limits so you can send PM's easily.
Be sure you have enabled PM's in your User Options, and your email address is up-to-date!
When logged in, go to: https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hu...do=editoptions and work through the options. Watch the left hand menu for more things to set
Also find all settings under: User Options / Edit Options / Messaging & Notification/
Recommended Settings for everyone to be able to communicate with everyone easily AND securely, without risk of getting spammed by putting your email address into a post - which you should NEVER DO ANYWHERE on the net, as Spammers have bots scurrying around everywhere literally "scraping" ever webpage in the world looking for anything that looks like an email address so they can add it their lists:
You can of course still contact us directly by email using any of the forms on the site.

Confused
The above states that the forum will send you an email message to notify you of a p.m.
So I'll risk a hail of derision and ask will this not also be blocked by google and others mail?

Gotta read the details - those emails will be FROM HU not the sender, therefore SHOULD go through. It's when userA asks HU to send an email, so "from" from userA, to userB and the return address is then "from" userA but actually from a Horizonsunlimited server that the issue arises. Hopefully that makes sense!

The good part is that you can read the message in the email notification you get, and decide whether you want to answer or not - or maybe a few minutes to think about your answer before firing it off.
You have no idea how much everything is changing in the fight against spam - it's getting VERY hard to deal with all aspects of mail these days. The ISPs and mail hosts like google are really putting in the screws. Things like requirements for DMARC, SPF, DKIM, and more are forcing loads of changes everywhere. I'm looking at spending significant money to make mail more reliable, but not yet - too expensive and it's still working, mostly.
If there is a mail wizard out there contact me!

New to Horizons Unlimited?

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
