Dear Grant
Just a short note mate to say we all still love you for providing one of the best sites on the net. Hang in there despite the present problems!!! ;-)
Darrin
"We definitely have not been ignoring the website upgrade issues, though we really wish we could make like ostriches! We have had an outside assessment done of the website upgrades and integration work. The verdict is that the upgrades are fine and provide a solid base for future work. However, the interface between the HUBB and the rest of the site looks pretty but involves complex bespoke coding that is causing performance and stability issues (NOT what we asked for!) We have reluctantly decided to simplify the interface, so it will not look as nice, but it should work reliably - function over form!
We expect to implement those changes as soon as possible, within the next couple of weeks. We are grateful for your continuing patience and support - this has been a very expensive lesson! Grant and Susan"

Hear hear!
This website is still a great place to be.
From my own point of view, everything works fine.
In my career I worked with a lot of systems analysts and software engineers, in UK and US, and learnt they almost all had one thing in common. - Instead of promising a broom cupboard and delivering a ballroom, they always promised a ballroom and delivered a broom cupboard, sometimes with a door that wouldn't shut. And the price more than doubled. So you have my sympathy and I'll continue using the website.
(Apologies to all systems analysts and software engineers on here who do a good job!)

Thanks! And I like the analogy!
It's when all you asked for was a clean broom closet with all the tools in it and a door that closed, and they delivered a ballroom with no supports under the floor that it really drives you nuts!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
