NEW Search on HU!
After many protracted struggles with search, we now have a paid version of Google Search running on the site. The usual search box top right of every page now uses Google search.
Enjoy!

Nice, I just hope it doesn't give us "personalized" searches as they try on the big Google Search.
Just today I had to log out of my youtube account, as it continued to propose videos, like the ones I searched for yesterday but which I didn't want to day.

they(websites) also use cookies also to track you, and now they have found a way to use "flash cookies" which rewrite the deleted cookie back unless you find the Flash storage area. I am still being plagued with offers of greenhouses after buying one during the summer.
Grant, that can't be the real google search engine. I just put in ".22 winchester rifle" and I didn't get a page full of naked ladies

Nope, no personalization! That's good or bad, depending...

ALL websites that you login to require cookies - impossible without it to keep you logged in.
Flash Storage info
Greenhouses - you're on their mailing list, nothing to do with flash. Getting off is hard! Basically all you can really do, if it's a real, visible, legitimate company is complain to them. Otherwise just delete or blackhole or add to your spam list.

thank god...
We paid real money, so it's only searching HU, and no ads, no personalisation.
Suggestions, tweaks, issues etc please let me know. I can't fix it if you don't tell me it's broken. NOTE: It will take a week or so more to get 100% correct results as it reindexes and deletes some old pages.
I hope it helps!

It's broken for me, I'm afraid:
I am looking for a topic started by me some time ago.
Code:
Showing results for buddhist thailand temp import permit
Search instead for beddhist thailand temp import permit
Naturally, I need the second option, so I click that. I get two pages of results.
At the bottom I click the link for page 2, which brings me back to the above, where I click the 2nd link, which brings me back to page 1, ad nauseam. I can only get the 1st page of results.
I am sorely missing a built-in HUBB search, where I can specify topic starters, what forums to search, etc.

Finding your own posts
Peter, this is a google annoyance I've run into before. Enclose beddhist in quotes like this:
Code:
"beddhist" thailand temp import permit
and that will do the job.
Re built-in search: We've looked at that and looked hard and long - years... and it's mega expensive. Think starting at $5,000 to make it happen, and an ongoing increased cost of a few thou a year. Not on.
However, there are some built-in search functions that will find you all your posts easily. In two clicks...
Find any post of yours, (you can cheat and create a temporary post and afterwards delete it) and click your user name - notice it's a LINK - then select "Find all posts by Beddhist" and Bob's your uncle!
Hope that helps!

Tip 2:
When you've done that, you'll see near the top in the breadcrumbs section "Search Forums ONLY searches the HUBB, and not well" - that's a link - click it and you will get the vB internal search - it's not good, but it does give HUBB results ok similar to what you're thinking about. We don't use it because it doesn't search the 30,000 other pages of the site and people are confused by that. (We have over 105,000 pages)
Shortcut to that internal HUBB ONLY search:

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
