Tapatalk or Forum Runner?
Hi,
Quick poll - which do you want to see us implement:
Tapatalk or ForumRunner?
Forum Runner integrates well with vBulletin, Tapatalk just does it's thing.
Forum Runner is free to me, or for a branding free version US$599, Tapatalk is also free to me but includes ads, or 799 for a version with no ads.
Price to you:
Android App Store:
Tapatalk is 2.99
Forum Runner is either free (read-only, can't post) or 2.09.
Apple App store:
Tapatalk is 4.99
Forum Runner is either free (read-only) or 1.99
Any thoughts / comments appreciated!

Is there any major functional difference? Or is it just a matter of price? :confused1:
If it is just price, cheaper is better!

That's what I'm asking users - I don't use either, don't even own a smartphone, so it's up to you guys! I know some of you use these apps, and have been asking for something for some time, so now's the time to decide

Seriously I think the most important thing is having redesigned the website to consolidate the inforamtion and make it easier for navigation. This has already gone a long way to making the mobile experience a lot better!
IMHO, there is not a big community that will pay for an APP to connect to HU/HUBB from their smartphones.
When you say some of us have been asking for some time. Can you give an order of magnitude?
Save money, drink .

Hi Grant - I use TapTalk a great deal on the iPhone - and whilst I do, and can struggle with the www page - TapTalk does rather make keeping up to date easier.
To give you an example when ABR introduced TapTalk I found myself checking the forum and replying about twice a day rather than about twice a week... I'd love to be able to do that on HUBB - the very heart of Adventure Biking.
m
P.S. TapTalk also has a free version of their iPhone app that is arguably better than the paid version .

There are two people in my household (including myself) who would probably use Tapatalk (or Forum Runner) if it was available. I don't have any real technical insight in terms of which is better -- Forum Runner or Tapatalk but I suspect that Tapatalk is more ubiquitous.
Besides the ads, it sounds like the major advantage to the paid (server side) editions is around Google Analytics and customization, including the client side app. Do I really require a customized app which only connects to the HUBB (at a fairly high price to you guys/HU)? Nope. I would happily pay a couple of bucks for the Tapatalk or Forum Runner app (actually already purchased the Tapatalk a while back hoping that I could use it for the HUBB).
As long as either app doesn't negatively effect "things" -- create security holes, create site instability, use a lot of resources or add significant admin overhead (i.e. Grant's time), I think a mobile app would a great addition. For those who are not interested, they don't have to use it.

I would like to say thank you for all of the work you have put in here. The new site looks great. Being a sysadmin, I know what it is like being "behind the scenes" and rarely receiving acknowledgement for making things work...well!.

My two cents worth
I already have Tapatalk installed with 4 other forums already available when I am on the road. I can only say that I have no issues with this APP but it does make for quicker access, than trying to unload the lappy and getting that powered up etc etc
There will probably be a number of other people who already have an APP installed, I know I won't pay for another, I prefer to consolidate
Cheers

So far there is little demand it seems for either Tapatalk OR Forum Runner!
If you're interested, please vote - I need to know whether it's worth the effort!

I don't know TapaTalk or ForumRunner but I know that the HUBB doesn't work on my phone anymore (Nokia E72).
Personally I don't like the idea of having to install software to make a forum work on my phone. The latest upgrade looks nice, but for me it means less functionality and fewer visits...

The OS is Symbian, it runs out of memory.

Hmmm, interesting - do you get the full blue menu bar, and "Quicklinks black bar, plus "mega-menu" or just the full blue menu bar and "quicklinks" menu?
Mega-menu is obvious on a regular computer - big dropdown menu full-width of the "Home / Get Inspired / Get Ready etc" blue menu bar, with a one row black menu bar just below the blue Menu bar, and above the mega-menu.
That black bar is the "Quicklinks" and should be what you get on mobile - NOT the full dropdown.
If you're getting the mega-menu I need to know - you shouldn't, so if you do, we're not "browser sniffing" correctly and need to fix it.
thanks, Grant

My experience of mobile web browsing is that it isn't particularly fast and tap a talk does seem to run faster on my phone.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
