Today's Active topics feature
Hi Grant and Susan,
It would be handy if the 'View today's Active Topics' feature on the HUBB showed what was active in the last 24 hours (or longer - maybe you could set a time yourself and store that preference in a cookie) instead of resetting at a specific time each day.
This makes it easier for curious browsers like myself to watch what others are chatting about without going through each topic individually after it's reset.
Thanks!
Wright

I wish.
Unfortunately it's not settable.
We ARE looking at more sophisticated bulletin board software, but have run into a big snag.
ALL the contenders - ubb6, vbulletin, and Gossamer Threads, are dynamic. This means essentially that the pages are not indexable by search engines such as Google without shenanigans that get you kicked off the server for overloading the cpu.
We are closely monitoring some developments in that area and are conversing with our hosts tech guys and UBB6 and Gossamer Threads tech guys to resolve it.
In the meantime, for good reason, we are sticking with what we have. It doesn't have as many features as other fancier boards, but content is king here, and the fact that these pages can be found by anyone who needs them is super important, and we won't change until we are sure we can continue that.

this is related, sort of...what happened to the feature that put a light bulb next to each forum which had changed since you last looked at it? I used to find this really handy for catching up on everything I'd missed when not logging on for a week or so. The "today's active forums" feature isn't much help in this respect. I like to read everything new - maybe I'm a bit wierd in this respect? But it's all interesting.

Nick, the lightbulb is still there and still works fine on mine - most of the time anyway, it is a little flaky occasionally - it thinks I haven't seen anything and I have - or maybe there's more posts than I think....
For yours, the problem could be related to your cookie setting. If you have increased your security or changed your browsers settings or upgraded the version you could well have cookies turned off - in which case the light bulbs won't work. You must have "accept all cookies" turned on for the bulbs to work. Otherwise the system has no way to track what you have seen.
If you're worried about cookies, it's not the evil and dangerous plot the popular press would have you believe. I'm on the net all the time and have cookies turned on.
We don't share, in any way shape or form, any cookies from our site with anyone, so no worries there.
Let me know if you have a problem sorting it out.
We'd like to have an extension to the "todays active forums" to allow you to choose the time period, and may someday. We are tweaking the code more all the time.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
