Brucie, you should be able to get much more than 200 miles range from the F800GS bikes, my record for the F650GS twin which is practically the same (slightly higher geared) was 271 miles which is over 24 km/litre.
I'm so glad you ended up with the larger MSR Elixir 3 and freestanding means you can pitch it on hard surfaces and supersoft sand.
I have to say I ride all the time in Decathlon hiking boots, I'm always wanting to stop and explore places.
You should look into getting a second passport each, this will make it easier to send one back to the UK to get visas if necessary.
