Greetings from Saudi Arabia!
I've just come across your website and i'm very impressed! So many awesome adventures...
I'm English but currently working in Saudi, i've been having questionable thoughts about driving back to the UK from here, it's been done before by people who have worked here but not for quite some time so a lot has changed! I'm still weighing up options, I could drive to Jordan and then to Israel, I spoke to a company about shipping from Haifa (Israel) to Lavrio (Greece) but there is no guarantee I could travel with my car until the day of sailing, so that's not ideal. There is the option of a ferry across the Red Sea and a drive up to Alexandria, then there is the choice of Cyprus/Turkey/Italy, although ideally I would like to see as many countries as possible (although, driving through Syria/Iraq/Iran isn't really on my list!).
I've currently got a Chevy Tahoe, although I would change it for this trip, to maybe a late 90s land cruiser or a Patrol or something...not necessarily for reliability reasons (The trusty 'hoe has been absolutely everywhere with me over the last 18 months!), but more for the fact that once I finally arrive in the UK I would be lumbered with whatever I had brought back, so the sensible part of my brain says do the trip in something that won't be as impossible to sell on as a 5.3 litre V8 3 ton truck...
Has anybody undertaken a similar trip on here that could give some advice?

Thanks,
James.

Sorry I can't help! That trip is rarely done these days.
If you have a ferry that will work, take it - there's not a lot of selection for sure. Israel to Greece is a good choice. I'd be surprised if you were without the vehicle for more than a few hours - it's a ferry after all so would expect you drive it on. Sit and wait at the port for hours and hours - and hours - is very possible though!
Good luck, please let us know how you get on.

Greetings from Saudi Arabia!
Grimaldi from Ashdod in Israel to salerno in Italy works, a friend did it about 2 weeks ago.
You can prebook as I understand. Might might make a stopover in Cyprus, but not always.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
