Hello from Germany

Hey everyone. I am an American living in Germany currently. Not sure how long I will be here, but hopefully a couple more years. Like so many here I have a desire to travel on two wheels and see as much of the world as possible. I always respect and envy those that have taken found the courage to ditch the expected a follow their dreams. I like to believe we all are capable of doing this at some point in our life, but we make decisions and live with the consequences both good and bad. I wish I had discovered my true love for travel when I was younger and before I was responsible for more than just myself.

As for now I am content to take was time I have each year a do whatever traveling I can. Being an American in Germany and getting to travel Europe is something many will never do, but it is just the tip of the iceberg to me. For now I read the post you guys makes and I live vicariously through your adventures. Perhaps one day retirement will allow the opportunity to really explore the world, meet the people and see the places that for now I mostly only get to read about.

My current ride is a 2011 BMW R1200GS, which my eyes on a smaller dual sport somewhere down the road. Germany has no real offroad routes to speak of that I have found, so the big bike works well here. It is great for long distance runs and cruises well on the autobahn.

If there are others out there that know of any legal offroad routes through Germany, I would be very interested to hear of them.

Take care and I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of the riding season season.

You may want to check the web for offroad routes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Mecklenburgische Seenplatte) and Brandenburg, I read about tracks there, wanted to try them but did not get around yet.

Also, just on the other side of the border with France, there are supposedly nice gravel roads in the Vogesen ("Vosgue Mountains"?)

Cheers

Lars

I'm guessing you're in the south west? Ramstein?
If so, the French border is not far and nearly all green lanes are open to bikers. Just show a bit of respect and if there's a sign saying no motorised traffic, take note.

You could also take a trip down to Walschbronn for the TR1 meeting... I know you don't have one but they don't care to much

See you there if you come... mines a green one. It lives there, but I may turn up on my R100GS

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
