Howdy everyone!
I just recently joined the HU site and am having a good time exploring all the available content and listening to Grant and the rest on Adventure Rider Radio Raw.
A bit about me...
I was born and raised in Texas and have been living in Georgetown, TX since 1999. I'm 34 and have never been without motorcycling since the age of 7. Like a lot of folks, I grew up riding little dirt bikes in the woods and traveling much further off than my parents ever knew (I'm luck to be here haha). I had a spirit for adventure as far back as then, and remember loving the exploration of going to new places far more than sticking to a motocross track.
I started long distance adventure touring, within the USA, in 2004 on a Suzuki V-Strom 1000. My first out of Texas ride, was a solo ride up through the Rocky Mountains and up toward Yellowstone, Bear Tooth Pass, then Glacier then over to the Black Hills and back. Camped the entire time of course. Since then, all my riding has primarily been within the USA with little dips into Canada and Mexico, but I've been dreaming of further for as long as I can remember. I recently came off a 2014 Super Tenere that I put a load of miles on and am now on a 2018 R1200GS Adventure. We're still dating, so we don't yet have the relationship and memories that my Tenere and I had...but we'll get there with miles.
My wife loves to ride just as much as I do. We met back in 2005 while I was riding through the Appalachians and doing the Deals Gap area. We stayed in touch and ultimately she ended up moving to Texas. We got engaged on the Mexico side of Big Bend NP in west Texas on the Tenere, and also took our entire 2-week honeymoon on the Tenere during an amazing riding and camping trip. She does not have her own bike and has always enjoyed being the pillion. Until we started our family, we rode together all the time.
In September of 2017, we gave birth to an amazing little girl named Sonora. We named her after Sonora, TX where we routinely camp on our last night as we return home from the west on a moto trip. Great memories there and it just fit for her. Sonora is now almost 14 months old - she's walking, running, playing, running into things, and just having a ball. She also has her first little electric GS replica toy
. As you can imagine, Sonora has drastically cut down on the 2-up riding that Mary and I enjoyed so much together. Obviously, Sonora is well worth our time and we know that Sonora will one day be old enough to be at a friends and Mary and I will get back to our 2-up frequent rides.
In the meantime, I continue to ride when I'm not spending time with the family. Going back to the Appalachians in a couple weeks to ride and I'm hoping that helps quench the heavy thirst I have right now for more riding.
Ultimately, I'd love to see Mary and I embark on a world tour once Sonora is of a more adult age. Until then, I'm reading and listening to the tales of everyone else and I'm continuing to plan and take my routine North American trips.
I look forward to the entertainment you all provide and the lessons that I will surely learn from those that have done the things I have not!
PS: If any of you are in the Hill Country area, please PM me so we can perhaps meet up for a ride sometime!
