Advice for Manipur/ Eastern India.
Hello everybody!
I am currently planning a trip from Imphala, Manipur, making my way to Arunachal Pradesh, then on through Assam - Sikkim and then into Nepal.
If anyone has travelled in these areas have any advice on cool routes, beautiful places and things to see, or any hikes, good food, accommodation, anything! I would love to hear it!
Even advice on buying a motorcycle in Manipur, any markets, or second hand bike shops. I have had some luck talking to the Royal Riders Motorcycle Club in Imphala.
Cheers!

Imphal border
Hey James,
Can't help with much, but if you want to save some money, you might be able to sleep in a police station guest house in Mao (Manipur / Nagaland border). The chieftain is a really nice guy and had recently build this guest house for passing travellers - free of charge.
Good luck,
Marek

Hi James
Not an expert about the eastern side of India but as I am from Hospitality industry I would love to suggest some resources.
For popular tourist attraction in all these regions try Tripadvisor India. Its currently rated as the best resource for tour sights ranking, local cab/ bike companies etc.
And the best part is that if for example you called a local tour operator after checking out his listing on Tripadvisor and do refer him that you got his number from the site then he/she will be extra cautious with the services that offer you as they now know that bad service can be a bad review on their listing (its a fact).
So do check out the site.
Regards,
Pratap

Hey,
I have been to some of the North Eastern states in India and here are my recommendations.
1) Arunachal Pradesh - Tawang and Menchuka
2) Assam -Shivsagar (Ahom Kingdom Ruins), Kaziranga National Park (very popular for Rhinos),Majuli Island - Biggest river island in Asia.Experience the ferry crossing on mighty Bramhputra river. It's fun.
Also if you are planning to visit Meghalaya - Then visit Dawki, take a boat ride in Umngot river.
Cheers

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
