Bribe cost in India
Anyone travelled on an new Enfield without an international drivingslicence AND the proper registration and ownership papers??
Do you know about how much the police "need" to look the other way?
We're getting the papers within a couple of days but want to celebrate new year in a nicer place than the town where we bought the bike...
Thanks / Roran

dear traveller,
on our honda dommies we were never id'd by the police in 3 months, and knew several people without licences on enfields who had few problems. would say no more than 10US. some baksheesh for a road toll in karnataka to goa which was bullshit, but at a couple of dollars no real stress. But you never know... avoid them and it is unlikely to cost you more than a few bucks,
have fun
chill on om beach and climb the rocks in hampi for me

We bought our Enfield 500 in Chennai for around 69000 Rs, thats including a few spares, bagage carriers and a couple of Rs in bribes.
The best advice I can give you before you leave for India is: Bring your own gear! We spent two days finding the bike we wanted and it took us four days to find any helmets that fitted, not saying that these helmets are good in any way.
If you have any other questions I'll do my best to give you a good answer.
Have a good trip / Roran

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
