Buying a Minsk in Hanoi

Hi guys, Im looking to buy a Minks in Hanoi, around $350-450 on or around the 29th of July! Please can you let me know if anyone is around that area looking to sell, or the name of a reliable dealer!

Also querying the possibility of crossing the borders into Laos/Cambodia/Thailand and Malaysia with it! Ive been reassured before it should be OK on such a small bike but a second opinion wouldn't go amiss!

Cheers guys, Charlie

Hanoi backpackers

Hanoi backpackers had several outside for sale when I was there, I spoke to somebody who had bought a reasonable looking one with pannier frames for $300, he said it was fine.

Met an Indian Guy living in Guangzhou who managed to do it. But he speaks fluent chinese, has a residency, drivers license and still needed to pay locals for smuggling it over the border. But good luck!

And Charlie&Smiler, lower that price, a lot. Most Minsk go for between 200-280 $. Those are of course the Backpackers and of course after you haggled them down from their 320$ dreams. Just do a little check on the bike, spot those 2-10 things that are always wrong and play on the mechanics card as most of the people riding in Vietnam ain't got any clue at all what's happening.

If you go to one of the shops you can expect to be asked for 400, but they go for around 350 with panniers and basic tools.

Not sure if you already heard of the site, but the adresses in the repair manuel and the stories are well worth some time: Minsk Club Vietnam ::: Everything you need to know about the Minsk in Vietnam

Have a great trip, the HCMH is an amazing Route and most times surprisingly almost empty as well.

I have a minsk for sale !

Hello, I have a minsk for sale in hanoi but I can go with it untill Sapa if you're looking for one there. I have done the road from Saigon and it was just amazing ! I sale my minsk with sadness because I had a very good trip with it (if it was possible, I'd send it to me in France). It is a good motorbike. Never big problems (during about 2000 km), just sometimes little things to adjust (90% by myself, this motorbike is very easy to understand). What is normal. So a very reliable Minsk, what is not the case for all... I sale it with helmet, straps, a bottle of oil, rain clothes (pant and jacket), a few tools; a map of vietnam, a paper with translation in vietnamese of some meals (usefull in the contryside) for 370 $ in Hanoi, 400 in Sapa. Don't hesitate to ask me for more details or a picture. I can advise you for your itinerary and to give you good adresses on the road to sleep and eat good and cheap (never more than 5$ per night). It's a really terrific experience ! Guillaume

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
