Camping in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia

Hi all

Am just about to reach Thailand with a Landcruiser and roof tent. Can anyone let me know of camping places in these countries? GPS coordinates would be a real help, if you could.

Thanks

Mark

Hotels in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia

A lot of people have read this, but no answers. If camping isn't an option in these countries, any info on inexpensive hotels with parking in these countries would also be very useful.

Thanks

Mark

T & LAO: most camping places are in or near national parks. If they are inside in Tyou will need to pay the NP entrance fee, which makes it hardly worthwhile, unless you were planning to visit the park anyway. Foreigners usually have to pay 200B/p.

I mainly free camped when running out of daylight in Laos. In either country you will be OK, if you find yourself a nice quiet spot away from the road.

Email me and I send you my provisional tracklogs (Garmin?) with some sites marked.

You can't take your car into Vietnam.

Camping Thailand

Mark,

I have been to Thailand a few times but have seen very few people "camping" with tents and the like. In some beach areas, particularly in National Parks the local authorities provide a shelter in which people can sleep over night and hang out by day. I am sure you will not have any problems camping in your truck in quiet places. I have always found the police and locals very accommodating. A polite question to the local shop keeper mmay help if you are wanting to stay near town. Almost every village has a common area that is used for markets and these are probably available on non-market days.

On place we know there is camping is just south of the Phuket airport directly on the beach, either side of the road. In the country side any laneway off the main road is a possibility.

Cheers

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
