Delhi to Bangkok overland with Enfield

Hello Hello

We are a french couple living in Delhi
Our project is to join Bangkok overland from India with our motorcycle

I have few question and HB it's the only place where I get help/advice/answers

- Is the border opened between India and Burma for tourist vehicles ?
- Can we cross with our indian bike ? do we need CDP or any paper I can manage from here ?
- we don't have choice and we'll have to leave from India beginning of July : are the main road practicable in Burma and Thailand even if it's monsoon time ?
- Does any one did this kind of trip recently and can help me in the process ?

thanks a lot
Sophie

Hi Sophie, you say you live in Delhi, do you have Indian residency ? If not you cannot register the bike in your name and without the correct paperwork you cannot take the bike into Burma.

Hi,

yes the bike is on our name because we lived in Delhi. but my question is just about the situation at the border. is it opened ? We need escort guide as you say, but then we are allowed to travel in Burma in July with our indian bike ? and to cross again to Thailand ?

My other question would be that if this way is not possible, we'll probably get a thai bike in Bangkok, in this case it is posible to travel with a thai bike to Burma ?

Where can I get more information regarding overland trip in those destination ?

Thx
Sophie

Thanks for your replies,

We are changing our plan.. no more Enfield through India - Burma - Thailand.

I could understand that we have to book with a travel agency if we want to travel from Thailand to Burma but if we rent directly a bike in Mandalay for example, can we travel independently ?

Thx!!

You can travel without a guide to certain regions. Why not speak to Zach ..

Hi Sophie

As you are in Delhi the I would suggest you to visit French Embassy in Chankyapuri. its the place where one can find every embassy that is connected with New Delhi India.

Don't take this risk that some travel agents said that yeah you can take a bike from India to Bhutan. See the thing is that you have a vehicle that is registered in India. So I feel that might lead to some paperwork which you need to fill and French Embassy is the perfect spot for you. Here is the link to Embassy.

Regards,
Pratap Singh
