Ferry (dhow) from Mumbai or Karachi to Iran/UAE/Oman

Hi Everyone,

I hope, this is the right forum as the posts in the 'Transport' are more about shipping motorcycles from A to B.

I'm planning a trip from Nepal to Germany this year. But I'm thinking of ways to avoid Baluchistan. So, I thought about:

1) Ferry from Mumbai to Iran/UAE/Oman/(any other country I'm not aware of)
But I can't find any ferry company leaving Mumbai (any other Indian port). Are my google skills not good enough or are there really no international ferries leaving India (except to Sri Lanka). Is there any possibility to hitch a ride on a smaller boat/dhow?

2) Ferry from Karachi to Iran/UAE/Oman/(any other country I'm not aware of)
I've read articles about a PNSC ferry line starting this year. But none of my mails to the company get answered. Is it already running? Is there a website? Are there any other ferry companies?

Regarding UAE and Oman: Is it possible to ride there with a Carnet? And is it possible to cross borders to Saudi Arabia and then from Jordan to Lebanon?

I'm really open on how to get to Germany – and I have time. So, if there are ferries, dhows or any other kind of vessel going even to another continent I'm up for such an adventure.

Happy to hear your experiences and get your feedback,
Flo

Ask around at the Muttrah dhow port. They still go from Sharjah and Dubai but in every case there will be new rules regarding passengers.

shipping from karachi

there is a french couple of overlanders, they left their landcruiser in pakistan for about a year, and when they returned, i think early this year, they did ship their landcruiser from Karachi to Dubai, in a 20 foot container, you can find for sure some info on youtube: "artisans de demain", they travelled from south-africa to pakistan already, now stuck at the Omani border.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
