Hiring a motorbike in the Indian Himalaya / Chandigarh
Hi
we would like to hire motorbikes for a trip to Leh. Chandigarh would be a good starting point. Does anyone know a place where we can get bikes? If not in Chandigarh maybe somewhere else? Jammu, for example?
Thanks a lot!

India ... has to be an Enfield.
We hired two classic Enfield Bullets from Lalli Singh(Inder Motors) in Delhi.Great bikes, great price & great guy. We hired them for a month & rode upto & around Ladakh & the bikes were then trucked back to Delhi. We loved it so much we did it all again a couple of years later. Don't be put off from thr Delhi start. Lalli will lead you out earley in the morning & by late afternoon you will be in the Himalayan foothills, Magic!

Bike Rental in Chandigarh
Have a quote to rent from Royal India Bikes in Chandigarh but do not have any experience with this company. Anyone had any good or bad reports?

Chandigarh or Manali?
Moin Scholle
IMHO the best place to start a motorbike journey up to Leh is Manali (if you don’t mind to miss Chandigarh). Avoiding the boring ride through the flatlands while the peak time of the monsoon period is worth the 14h (sleeper) coach travel from Delhi straight up to the foot of the Himalayas.
But independend from you starting point: we had ride the Manali-Leh- Highway last year and this was one of the most impressive trips we had made so far . Some impressions as well as some maybe helpful travel hints you can find here (German only, my apologies for the Anglophone part of the crowd ):
Das Motorradreiseforum • Thema anzeigen - Let´s get Leh´d
If you should need further details don’t hesitate to write me a PM
Grüße vom
Jörn

Can't quite remember exact price but it was cheap. In 2007 we hired a 500cc & a 350cc(with left foot gear change) for a month & with fuel guesthouse & food for two we only spent £650. Did it all again in 2009 was a bit more expensive but cheap enough that we stopped tallying up the cost.
Manali to Leh was brilliant also consider the Spiti route.
Good Luck
