Hunza Lake/KKH update
Just got this news from Gilgit
Yes, Madina [guesthouse in Gilgit] is still open and we struggling for the survival and these days... As you know the situations in Pakistan are worse according to media because of that not many tourists are coming to Pakistan but still some tourists are coming from china side after crossing the Sost border and tourists can easily get there visas on arrival on the Sost border.
Hunza lake is still existing. The level of it has been decreased a little bit but the level is almost the same as before. It has been said that the level of water will be brought to the level lower than road and they will rebuild the road along the lake but these are just speculations and no work has been done on it so far. But there are boats which take the passengers as well as cargo from one side to another.

Hi there,
I can confirm that.
I crossed the Pakistan border from China via Sost some days ago and drove the KKH southbound. Medina GH is open, with many guests. Mainly bicycle riders. It was a beautiful ride. No problems at all.
The visa on arrival in Sost is also no problem. Make sure, that the customes in Sost put their number in the carnet de passage. I had problems to leave Pakistan without this entry number.
I had to cross the Hunza lake with boat. People were very helpfull.

Fantastic people. I have seen them loading Jeeps and Vans on the same wooden boats powered by small rudimentary diesel engines. Unbelievable.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
