Hey Erik, I believe Striking Viking shipped his bike to Borneo and back to Malaysia.
Check out this really huge link:

You might also email Striking Viking direct for more information.

Hi,
When I was travelling around Sabah and Sarawak in 2003/4, there were no regular ferries between there and peninsular Malaysia. There was a ferry from Sandakan (on the east of Sabah) to Zamboanga in the Phillipines, but that doesn't really help you. :-)
For what it is worth, I'm pretty sure Striking Viking got a deal with Malaysian Airlines and flew his bike to Kuching.

I've got a real soft spot for Sabah and Sarawak, I hope you have a fantastic time there.
If you get into the interior, for example Bario and Long Lellang in the Kelabit Highlands of Sarawak, have a look at the little web page I wrote up:

Or not, either way. :-)
Cheers,
Rob

I am in Malaysia right now and did ask around in Kuala Lumpur last week on how to get to Borneo.
I was told that it should be no problem to load your bike on one of those freighters between the malayan peninsula (including Singapore). It would be just a matter of finding a ship in on of the ports. You could even get a lift for yourself, I was told.
Personally, I decided against trying it, so I cannot tell my experiences.
