New tires in Bali
Hi guys
After nearly 10,000kms through the outback and up through to Bali my already old road tires are looking a bit worse for wear.
I'd really like to swap them over to something slightly chunkier to cope with the slippier patches. She's an 89' Honda CD250U so I'm not bashing up the side of mountains or anything like that, but as I'm sure you all know the roads here occasionally disappear into nothing so I'd like to be slightly less wobbly in those situations.
I know absolutely nothing about tires other than mine are 17" rims that take 3.00 + 3.50-17 100/80-17 inner tubes, but matching up the sizes is something the tire shop will know enough about..it's what kind of tire to look for I need advice on.
I know I'm not going to be spoiled for choice over here, but does anybody have any advice for something with a bit more bite available in Bali or what I should at least be looking for in the tire. Also would be grateful on advice regarding what I should expect to pay and where the best spot would be to get things checked out.
Ta
Nick

Hi,
I have seen many scooters (Honda wave/dream) with 17 inch offroadtires, so it schould be possible to get those small Tires for your Bike (Front 3.00-17-4PR, Rear 3.25-17-6PR) in Indonesia.
Just ask around, there are many shops selling normal tires, and they will help you finding offroad tires.
I found one place in Denpasar who sold Tires for Big-Bikes
Bought a 90/90-21 fronttire made in Indonesia for 285.000rp (22€)
It will not last forever, but grip is good...
Scooter-Tires start at 80.000rp
Adress of the shop:
Aneka Ban
Jl. P. Tarakan 25A, Denpasar, Bali 0361-8422143
Anyway, if you stay at the main-roads, you will not need Offroad-Tires in SEA
Greetings from Kupang West-Timor
Heiko

Thanks Heiko
I loved Kupang! I ended up spending a week there rather than my original plan of only two days.
I'll have a look around in Bali and I'm sure I'll be able to find something. I'm not after full on dirt tires, I just wouldn't mind something with a tiny bit more bite than what I'm used to.
Those scooters you see with chunky as hell dirt tires look awesome by the way.

there are kawasaki shops here now selling little 125cc trail bikes that a lot of the guys fit with offroad tires too. there is even a husquvana shop here now so 18" and 21" tires shouldnt be a problem for other bikes. they do exist, now you just have to find them.
