Renting Bikes in Asia, what to do and what not

Here is where you'll find out what the bike shops won't tell you

Check the bike thoroughly and take extensive pictures
Do not leave cash deposits.
Repair the bike if needed, before you return it, that way you only pay local prices for parts and labour. Some make more on repairs than they do on rentals.
If short term renting check fuel level, you may be asked to return it full
Do wear a helmet. In spite of what the locals do, it is illegal and you will open yourself to police corruption.
