In Pakistan only 70, 125 and 150cc bikes are avaiable in the market. There are numerous places that rent these motorbikes in different cities of Pakistan but they are usually in bad shape and unreliable.
I would suggest you to buy a new bike with commitment of resale with a small depreciation depending on your use. To give you an idea Honda CG125 costs a bit more than US$ 1000 and Chinese 70cc bikes cost half that amount.

Pakistan

Thanks for the reply Omie, this is certainly an option that I would be willing to look into. I hope to be in Pakistan for some work related activities in mid Sept. which may take me up near Gilgit. Getting a bike to do the KKH would be fantastic and then maybe riding around a bit in other areas of the country. If you have any comments about general riding in Pakistan, bike insurance, purchase and/or anything of that nature to get me started I’d appreciate it.

Thanks

Hi CTB,
To begin with I would suggest you to first get in tune with the flow of traffic in Pakistan before you start riding. It should take a few days.

Last year a Pakistani of Canadian origin, Richard Seck, spent quite some time in Hunza while renting a bike. You can share his experience on the following link. He is also a member of PBC (Pakistan Bikers Club)

Having a bike in Sep/Oct near Gilgit can be wonderful. You can visit the legendary Deosai, Shimshal etc apart from Khanjerab.
Regards

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
