Spare tyres for Uk to OZ
Whats the general view on taking spare tyres with you to reach India/Nepal? Can I expect to make it with one rear?
Onwards from there it looks like tyres are available in bangkok and no doubt Aus.
Any views from those who have been there, done that? I will be on an Africa Twin , leaving next Sept! I currently use TKC80s , which Ive found fine on and off road.
Yep..my trip is now definite and Ive given in my notice...yeah ha!

The last last place to definitely get good tyres before you hit Bangkok is Istanbul, i started out from the UK on part worns and changed them for a new ones in Istanbul, they both lasted, the rear just, to Bangkok, where you can generally get new tyres again. You can get some in India, except for KTM's cos of the size, but they will be poor tyres or second hand good ones for the price of new ones.
Have a good trip.

Hi
My R80GS managed UK to Kdu via KKH on one set of Michelin T66 no problem. These tyres just last forever. Used two sets of front brak pads though. Changed the rear in Bangkok, but not much choice in sizes.

On our way overland, from Germany to Australia, our eastmost spot to buy some tires (we bought Continental TKC 80) is in Antalya at Motorbike Taurus http://www.taurus-motorrad.com (info@taurus-motorrad.com; tel. +90 242 312 3947; fax +90242 312 1459). The next possibility is in Bangkok.
The lads from Taurus are extremly helpful. They even sent the 4 tires to a hotel in Van in Eastern Turkey. So we saved at least 1500 km of rubber. Have cash handy: 250 Euros per set.(ATM's in town)
They also could put the tires on and handbalance them which you don't get in Van.
Say hello to Mahmhut.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
