Storing a motorbike in Nepal
Does anybody know how strict Nepal customs are with keeping a motorcycle under carnet in the country for over the 6 months they allow? Need to fly home and work for a couple of months. Would leaving it in India be better or could I ride down to the border and then re-enter and have the 6 months reset?
Cheers,
Nick

I stayed in Nepal for 9 months, and left via the Siliguri India border. They didn't clock that I'd been in the country over the 6 months when they stamped my carnet. They were quite unsure about the whole carnet document. I was lucky!

Nah you weren't lucky, Nepalese customs and immigration are often a shambles. At least that has been our experience and that of our friends also. We also entered via the Siliguri border.
We were a week in Nepal before we even realised that Customs never stamped our carnet in. So we never had it stamped out either
A fiend of ours deliberatly didn't have his carnet stamped in, just so he could leave the bike in Nepal for about 4 months. Hey I'm not saying you do this Just passing on another travellers experience.

Hey Lilly,
I left the motorbike at my Nepali friend's garage for a year, just got back in to KTM the other day and picked it up. From what I've read, it doesn't seem like it's going to be a problem at the border. I'll let you know how it goes - thinking of heading off in a week.
If you're in KTM and need help finding a place let me know, got a few friends here who might be able to help.

Carnet and leaving a bike in Nepal
We are riding to Singapore. Thinking of leaving the bike in Nepal whilst we return home for a few months. Easy?

yeah should be fine, plenty of bike tour places or guesthouses that should be able to look after your bike for you. Also the bike is entered on carnet not logged in your passport, I really doubt the authorities would find out if you flew in and out without bike.
