Taking personal jeep from Iran into Armenia
Hi,
we are currently with our personal car (Dutch license plates) in Iran, and want to take the car out via the Iranian-Armenian border at Norduz/Agarak. We entered Iran from Iraq with a Carnet de Passage.
Does anybody know (first hand experience) if the Norduz/Agarak border is a so called 'allowed' border for foreigners with a car with foreign license plates?
Thanks,
Edwin & Ivonne

We have done the crossing this week.
here are our experiences about the border crossing. Everything went smooth and relaxed. Especially the Iranian exit procedure was easy. They stamped the Carnet de Passage without even looking at the car. The Iranian side of the border is a modern terminal with a cafetaria and exchange possibilities. We did not have to pay 'tax' for the fact that we bought subsidized diesel in Iran (we heared some stories from people who did have to pay at other border crossings).
Also the Armenian side was relaxed and very quiet. Nobody speaks English, but the procedure is straightforward. No Carnet de Passage needed to enter Armenia, and we didn't need to buy a visa (EU citizens). We had to pay 33000 Dram (=58 Euros) for road tax for 30 days (only 15 days or 30 days options are available), and another 8000 Dram (14 Euros) for the mandatory Insurance of the car (21 days Insurance). They searched the car, but not very detailed. There is an ATM available at the Armenian border post.
Whole Iranian and Armenian procedure took around 2.5 hours.

Kind regards,
Edwin & Ivonne
