Temp import to Thailand on Tourist visa?

I'm trying to get my ducks in a row for Thailand. My plan is to ship RoRo in a few days from Japan. I contacted Fair & Easy co., LTD about help with customs. They were recommended on the GT riders forum.

I was planning to fly into BKK and get a visa at the air port. I have been told that I can not temp import my motorcycle on a 1 month visa from the airport. Instead they said I will need to have a 3 month tourist visa prior to getting to the country. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I also have a carnet. Can't I just get my carnet stamped?

My worry is I won't be able to get a visa in Japan before I leave. (i've heard horror stories.) I will be flying into Seoul before BKK so I extended my stay there, I could get the 3 month visa... I hope.

Noah, Thailand is not a CPD country... so there's no use for one there.
Can't say anything useful about the visa though...

There is no such thing as a 30 day visa to Thailand. Most People on short time stay to Thailand get a 30 day visa excemption.

And a tourist visa to Thailand is 60 days. Not 30 or 90 days. However a 60 day tourist visa can be extended another 30 days on a immigration Office (without leaving the country) if all pro forma and paperwork is ok.

If you can get a temp import on this I dont know....

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
