Temporary Admission License to enter Iran with your car
Temporary admission of automobile for passengers
Ref: http://www.irica.gov.ir/Portal/Home/...6-1bed62da0532
Hi All,
I have gone mad by now, trying to find answer to above question.
I want to travel from London all the way to Pakistan, via Iran.
I cant get Carnet issued as I'll rather pay customs duty at Pakistan Border (Taftan Border when entering Pakistan).
I'll be entering from Turkey border & I want to get Temp. Admission License at Bazargam border in Iran. I have seen lot of people talking about getting trapped by agents there at the Bazargan border (Turkey-Iran) and ended up paying hell lot of money (atleast 650 Euros upto 1000 Euros).
Im only transitting. Now, Iranian customs say, I can get the temp license done by paying some deposit or bank band security, but cannot find how much officially.
I would rather go & pay the legal fee directly or bit more through agent (10%-20% on the top).
I have finally given up & posting my question here. Please give me up to date info on this.
Also, if someon can confirm, if Carnet is needed for travelling via Turkey.
Im not staying in any countries more than 1-2 days as its all transit.
Thanks
Hummad

No carnet required for Turkey.
As for Iran I met a guy at the border several months ago who was doing the same thing. No carnet but was leaving a cash deposit. It was a lot more than €1000 though. Can't remember the exact amount but I think is was in the region of €12,000. And no guarantee that you will get it back.
The figure will depend on the value of your car. I think it is possible to do but doubt anyone here will be able to give you an exact figure.

1-No carnet needed for Turkey, you can buy vehicle insurance at all bordergates while entering Turkey on a vehicle if your green insurance doesnt cover Turkey..
You say you will pay import customs while entering Pakistan so:
VISAS
If you are UK.citizen
United Kingdom: Diplomatic pasaport holders are exempted from visa for their travels up to 90days. Ordinary, service and special passport holders are required to have visa to enter Turkey. Ordinary passport holders can obtain three month-multiple entry visas at the Turkish border gates.
UNITED KINGDOM
3 Months
20 $ - 15 € - 10 £
If you are Pakistan citizen,
PAKİSTAN :
Pakistan: Official passport holders are exempted from visa for their travels to Turkey up to 90 days. Ordinary passport holders are required to have visa to enter Turkey. Ordinary passport holders with a valid Schengen, OECD member's visa or residence permit may get their one month single entry visas at the Turkish border gates upon their arrival.
PAKISTAN
1 Month
20 $ - 15 €
3
We are informed that there is a big embassy crisis between UK. and Iran so there is no current information available to enter Iran without a carnet.
Wish you all the best.

Hello,
It would be far easier if you got a Carnet just for Iran from RAC. This will allow you to enter Iran without securing a desposit, When you get to the Taftan border they will stamp you out sayin you've left Iran with your car. All you have to do at the Pakistan side is tell them you wanna pay custom. I am unsure but one fella did this and he had to take a custom official with him to quetta where his vehicle was impounded until he paid £40,000 custom a week later and they gave back his car. This was all pre arranged so it wasnt seized as such but kept locked as part of the procedure.
You can then send back your Carnet to RAC who will release your deposit.
When are you looking to do this trip?

Im looking to Travel in May. Im a Pakistani Citizen so, only need visa for Iran which I have figured out. I'll contact Iranian Tourist Agencies in Iran via iran travel, tourism and touring - [Official website] - Your travel guide to Iran & pick one.
They charge $30 Per Visa issuance, they give you Authorisation Code (7 digit) & I can then go to any Iranian embassy (Frankfurt in my case) & get the visa stamped. Its another 20-30 EUR for stamping visa.
There's a legal way of doing this Temp Adm. License thing & I'm sure thats why the agents at Turkey-Iran border do but charge us 100 times more money than the actual cost.

Are you sure about that? The AA in Finland very much refused to unlock my carnet bond account, until my bike was back home, and I got the stamps from the Finnish customs to the carnet's "Certificate of location"-page. Exit stamps from everywhere wasn't enough. In this case it's a bit different of course, when the OP wants to make permanent import, but don't assume the carnet issuer would do this or that, ask them first.

I am Pakistani citizen too but by via heritage but I do have NADRAA overseas card and looking to do this trip very soon too.
Yes there is official way of doing it however since its the middle east nothing is straight forward, If you dont mind the hassle then theres only one way to find out and thats go and try. Like I say someone tried this but they spent ten hours at the border haggling the price and eventually brought it down to £900. IF your paying that amount anywaythen its easier just to get the Carnet from hme as the price is not far from that mark anyway. (I have been quoted £1300 for car valued at £5k) The only difference is you leave a deposit which you will get back when you send the paperwork back. This is will save you allot of time and effort.
I am unsure what the forum rules are so unsure if they allow Youtube Videos but I will PM you a youtube link where somone did the journey and explains how much of hassle it was to obtain a carnet at the border. Like I say dont let this put you off, if you dont mind the hassle then go for it.

Hello Pecha,
You have to tell RAC when applying that you intend to import the vehicle permently, in this case this will be going to Pakistan but a Carnet for Iran is needed for transit. They will accept the carnet and release the bond if you send a photocopy from Pakistani customs saying vehicle is in Pakistan etc. By all means double check but I am more then confident this is the case.

Do you mean you have no clue how to get one or deicding on where to get it from?
IF you are UK citizen then its pretty straight forward and quite easy, you just fill in 2 forms, send a copy of your V5 vehicle logbook, and photocopy of the data page of your passport. The RAC then send you a quote which is calculated on your vehicle value. You can then accept the quoute and make payment and get the document delivered.
You can either secure a bond via your bank, leave the amount of money in sealed account or take out a insurance who basically gurantee that they would pay the custom incase you left the vehicle in the country. (They would then chase you for the money) The easist method is via insurance unless you have few hundred thousand lying around to secure a bond on. So if your vehicle value is 5k expect to pay 3k in full but you will then get roughly 1400quid back when you send the carnet back to them after its correctly been stamped etc. So in reallity it only costing you £1300-ish. you loose 50-60quid via fee's etc.
IF your vehicle value is much less then you can expect to pay much less. So if your taking car value worth 2k you can expect to pay only 600ish for carnet etc. I hope that helps.

The problem is everyone is out to make money in that part of the world so if it means getting a bonus plus your salary then why not, only problem is that its at your expense.
I wouldnt worry about getting in touch with some one at the border, your aim should be directed as the Iranian Customs HQ then that way you will get legit information and less chance of paying some money to some border agents who are in reallity pockecin the money. Unless your well connected at the border it would proove quite difficult. But thats my personal opionion.

RAC withdraws bank guarantee

Not anymore in the UK. While the OP is a Pakistani national so not directly relevant I thought I would just add that the RAC has now withdrawn the bank guarantee option for carnets. So now basically 2 options for those seeking a carnet in the UK, either the insurance indemnity or refundable deposit (up to max. £10,000).

Hi!
do anybody knows how long can a foreigner leave a vehicle in Iran, Turkey or Pakistan?
I am traveling solo by motorbike and doing 4 weeks every year. My bike is currently in Russia, but I am planing to move toward central asia and I need to plan my itinerary in order to be able to leave it in a country where I can ideally leave it for 12 months. In the worse case 6 months would also be an option.
Thanks in advance for your help!
