First trip in India!

Hi folks, I turned 40 in november and as a present to myself cooked up the idea of a spending a month touring the south of India on an Enfield. I've nearly come to the end of months of horrendous factory work plus extra overtime to raise the cash so now need to do some serious planning. My rough plan is to fly into Mumbai at the end of january, buy a bike with a buy back scheme from a vendor or buy from another traveller and hopefully sell myself, I plan to do a rough clockwise route around the south saving the beaches till last. I would really appreciate any help and advice anyone can give regarding : places to get/sell bikes, places to stay in Mumbai/southern India/ routes to take, well, basically everything really, bearing in mind i'm on a pretty tight budget.
