Want to ride a huge long-term adventure but only have a tiny budget? THEN THIS POST IS FOR YOU ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Here's what ya do my moto buddies:
1️⃣ Fly into New Delhi India in early spring (March/April) with all your necessary moto gear with the plan of adventure riding for the next 6 months in the Himalayas
2️⃣ Buy a brand new Hero X-Pulse Pro 200 for $2,300 USD (This purchase price includes 4 years of insurance, 1 years worth of maintenance, and all necessary taxes to be on the road) Here's a link on how to purchase your new bike:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CwKah-cS...BhdjRpcXZkOQ==
Over the last 7,500 miles (12,000 KM) I have found this lil Hero motorcycle to be by far the most capable ADV bike currently available here in India. If ya wanna ride a Royal Enfield or GS1300 more power to ya but I can't recommend these bikes in good conscious
3️⃣ Spend a few days getting some super sweet and dead cheap accesories installed in the craziness of Asia's largest motorcycle market Karol Bagh. Good recommendations for upgrades on your new hog: LED auxiliary lights are anywhere from $12-40 USD installed, custom vinyl graphics $17-45 USD installed, custom made super comfortable seat $18-35 USD installed. If you're interested in doing any serious dirt riding replace the factory front CEAT tire with a Ralco Motocross knobby front tire for $32 USD installed. Here's a link to this massive moto mart madness location:

4️⃣ Hit the trail ???????????? My riding recommendation would be in early spring time (March/April) ride straight from big ole New Delhi towards the Nepal border somewhere in the state of Uttrakhand in one biiiiig day on the main roads. IT'S GOING TO F'ING SUCK BUT RIDE IT LIKE PULLING OFF A BAND-AID!!! I don't say this often buuuut start your ride early and stick to the highways on this particular day to avoid the insane Delhi traffic and really just to get this crappy riding part done and over with with! I only recommend this simply to get out of the big city insanity and up into the lower Himalayas where the real adventure begins. Recommended fun and chill cities to reach from Delhi on your big day ride:
Rishikesh
https://maps.app.goo.gl/qGa5voQeGz4CXrZK6
Kasar Devi Almora
https://maps.app.goo.gl/FNsdxtsDksoEjR5k8
Banbasa
https://maps.app.goo.gl/G7rfPDJRfH2jrzWMA
5️⃣ Break in maintenance time! After 250-400 miles (400-600 KM) it's necessary to take your new Hero motorcycle to the Hero shop to change out the factory break-in high zinc mineral engine oil to a full synthetic normal oil. I recommend to always watch the mechanics in the developing world as an aircraft mechanic by trade with decades of experience I have seen these local mechanic guys do some absolutely crazy stuff... Even if you aren't a mechanical person at all you just standing there the entire time asking stupid questions is generally enough to ensure the machanic will at the very least do a good enough job whiiiiich is really all ya need on a brand new bike. Things to make sure your mechanic actually checks:
????️ Valve lash: To do this take off the valve covers and spin over the engine with only the starter motor for a few seconds while the spark plug is disconnected ensuring oil is actually flowing up to the cylinder head from the brass oil jets. If that's not happening stop there and troubleshoot farther. If oil is flowing up there as it should be in a normally operating engine move on to checking the gap (lash) between your cam shaft and valves. (This procedure is outlined in great detail in your factory service PDF manual)
????️ Engine oil screen inspection: These Hero bikes don't have an actual oil filter buuuut they do have an oil screen located inside of the right hand engine case. Remove this case and the flat 1 inch by 1 inch screen lives inside a small casted boss below the clutch basket. Also a great time to open up the partical seperator which lives at the end of the crank shaft. It's 3 philips screws and needs her insides to be wiped clean with a fresh rag and isopropyl alcohol (or gasoline). This is also a great time to look at your clutch plates, basket, and internal drive gears. Put the partical seperator and engine case back together with new gaskets. (They cost $3 USD and can save your a$$ out on the trail)
©️ Entire bike inspection: Start at the back of the bike and inspect (by this we mean put a wrench and snug up) every single bolt, nut, or screw moving from front to back. These Hero bikes are truly fantastic machines for what they are buuuut quality control here in India isn't what it is in Japan... Whiiiich is why these bikes cost ⅓ of the equivalent Jap bike. After tightening EVERY SINGLE THING THAT CAN TURN give these particular items an extra special inspection: Rear wheel cush drive rubbers, chain tensioned with your full weight sitting on the bike, clutch cable adjustment, throttle cable adjustment, neck bearing adjustment, and both front and rear brake pads for uneven wear. These time consuming inspections can quite literally save your life out on these crazy Indian roads. Spend the whole day in the shop to make sure the rest of your days in India are as smooth and fun as possible ????????????
6️⃣ Get out and riiiiiiiide bay-beeeee! My belief about adventure riding is it's all about the smiles and not the miles. Stick to the back roads y'all! Get off the bike in these tiny villages and have a chia with the locals. Go see a few ancient temples. Ride up an unknown mountain trail just to see where it goes for no apparent reason. There's plenty of adventure and good times up in these hills ????️????????????
7️⃣ Take your time riding the backroads and trails north. The weather is absolutely perfect in the lower Himalayas of Uttrakhand and Himachal Pradesh from January to late May. No monsoons and limited rain with daytime temps in the mid 70's (20's C). There are plenty of guesthouses available for any budget but I find for about $9-12 USD a night you get a comfy bed, a hot shower, WiFi, and usually dinner and/or breakfast included.
8️⃣ Spiti Valley tiiiime once the monsoons come: As the endless onslaught of rains hit the lower Himalayas in late spring you will run into never ending landslides, floods, and wet riding... Time to head farther north into Spiti Valley for better days. There's plenty to see up here for a couple of weeks of day rides and unloaded exploring with the bulk of your gear being left back at the guesthouse while you go out on 2 wheeled daily adventures ????????️☄️
9️⃣ Ladakh June-September: The land of high passes is snowed in until the early summer most years since literally everything is 12,000 feet (3,600 M) above sea level. You can easily spend 2-3 months up here riding, hiking, and exploring. The highest ridable pass in the world is here aaaand that's not even close to the best riding in this area ????????️????
1️⃣0️⃣ Start riding back south towards New Delhi via the states Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan (September-December). Each of these states are absolutely incredible in their own right. You could eeeeeeasily spend a month or more riding each of these gems of India. I can not recommend checking these places out enough. Staggering how friendly the people are, how delicious the food is, and the seemingly endless places to explore ????????️????????
1️⃣1️⃣ End your Indian adventure- Sell your mighty lil Hero for a bit of a loss ($250-600 USD) back in New Delhi... Most likely you'll be selling your slightly used well maintained bike with a bunch of awesome moto gear ya brought from home that's just simply not available or insanely expensive here in India???? With that in mind ya could potentially sell the rest of your western gear parted out or as a whole on the bike essentially having had a free or damn cheap very capable motorcycle to live off of for the last 6 months. Hard to go wrong on that deal my friends ????
???????????? Money wise you can easily budget for less than $1,000 USD a month while moto travelling here in India. If course you can spend more dough or even less if ya wanted to. It's really all up to you but I find at a grand a month I'm wanting for nothing and enjoying a truly fantastic quality of life while getting to ride a fun lil motorcycle when and wherever I choose ????????????????
After now spending over a year of my life riding motorcycles around India I can report back smiles per dollar it's hard to beat northern India. Awesome 2 wheeled action in every direction, great friendly people, and fantastic food. It don't get much better than this in my book y'all ????❤️*????????????????????✨
***Here's some Pro Tips for life here in India as well as recommended moto traveling gear to bring along from home with ya in your checked baggage:
✈️ When ya first land in the Delhi airport get an Airtel SIM card for $4 USD a month. This SIM comes with plenty of data and coverage. Here's the Airtel shop in the airport:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/Jh2wVHDDXqeqtptg8
???? If you don't have local Indian rupees hit the ole blue and white SBI ATM (State Bank of India) riiiiiiiiight next to this Airtel shop. The ATMs in India only allow you to pull out 10,000 rupees (115ish USD currently) at a time. This will be plenty of local cash for your first day getting your SIM card, lunch, ECT
*Pro tip* Don't ever except the ATMs exchange rate... If / when any ATM in India asks you if you want the "unverified rate" or the banks "fixed rate" ALWAYS click NO CONVERTION. This is a bit of an official bank scam and will save you $7-12 USD on every ATM transaction here in India... Potentially well over $500 USD throught your 6 month trip through India ????????????
????***ULTRA PRO TIP***????
Before traveling internationally open and use a Charles Schwab Investor bank account for your travel money. This bank refunds all the ATM fees every month which can add up pretty quickly and they charge less than 1% for a conversion fee from dollars to local currency all around the world. I can report back they also have great customer service based in America with a 24/7 helpline accessible anywhere in the world for free via Skype on the banks 1-800 number. They really are the best thing I found for traveling and holding your money.
???? Download the Uber app in your home country before ya fly into India. Be sure to get the app verified and working as well as set up your bank card as your preferred payment method. This solves both language barrier and directional miscommunications. Paying with your card also solves a multitude of problems such as scams, not having enough local currency, or the driver "not having correct change" (yet another scam) Uber is crazy cheap in India. The ride from the airport to really anywhere in Delhi is going to be $9 USD or less. Even cheaper once out of the airport and you can call tuk tuk's (autorickshaw's as they are called in India) ????????
Ⓜ️ The Delhi Metro is super cheap & easy to use. Even has a very cheap high-speed line directly from the airport into town. You can buy a $3 USD metro card that is rechargeable... Honestly though $3 bucks will take ya pretty far! This miiiight just be the cheapest and cleanest metro in the world! (At least that I've found)
????*Pro tip- Google Maps is incredible for navigating the Delhi Metros giving you stop by stop directions, needed line transfer stations, travel times, and even prices for each trip! Best method I have found for navigation on or off the motorcycle ????❤️*????????️????????
????️ If you are a museum person be careful on Mondays becouse many of the museums and ruins in Delhi (and the rest of India) will be closed ????

This is some of the best moto traveling gear that I have personally found and tested over the last decade of RTW riding in the real world while living off the motorcycle for years at a time. Every single item listed here is now my go to RTW trip gear that I have genuinely found to be Tried-N-True, dyed in the wool, tough as nails, ECT rugged moto gear to bring with ya from home:
BRING EVERYTHING ???????????? India sadly has next to nothing for good quality moto gear. They have veeery cheap locally made moto gear made for quite small people (midgets?????). Or on the other side of the spectrum they have insanely expensive random pieces located in different shops all over town... Make you life easy and bring what ya need and then some with you from home ????????????
I cannot recommend highly enough to bring at least the veeeeery basics of a good quality helmet, jacket, pants, gloves, boots, ECT. If you don't take anything else away from this post besides this lil tidbit I can say my mission to help other adventure riders was a total and complete success ???? ???? ????
I wore my entire Klim Badlands Pro riding suit carrying my helmet on my flight from the USA to Delhi with no issues. This saved a buuuunch of room in my checked bags for more moto gear such as:
???? Heated grips- You don't have to have these buuuut they sure make a huge difference riding over these crazy high passes and rainy days. Best $80 bucks I have spent on any of my RTW motorcycles:
