Where to rent in Delhi?
Wich are the best places to find nice bikes (not Enfields, preferably)? I know there are several places in Delhi, but do they all also rent other bikes or just Enfields? Nothing against them, they look great and sure are a great experience to ride, but the schedule is a bit tight so don't want to risk loosing time with them.

renting in Delhi
I rented in Manali 2 times and we ran into so many people that had rented bikes in Dehli and had nightmares with the junk they rented. We found them broke down on the road over and over. I would rent in Manali from Anu and here is his web site.

As mentioned above, there's a lot of potential for renting crap in Delhi or Manali (in Manali it will just be more expensive crap). I had good evperiences renting a Bullet from Soni Motors in Karol Bagh. Also many people have spoken highly of lalli singh.com

Will ref to non-Bullets, I can't make a recommendation. Take a walk around Karol Bagh and see what there is, or ask Pawan or Lalli for their recommendations.

+1 more for renting from Anu!

IMHO renting in Delhi (and driving up) is a real waste of time. Anu´s bikes are not brand new but in brilliant shape and, if you are lucky, he has got some bikes already parked at Leh and will by happy if someone is driving one back to Manali. This would be the tour option spending most days in the mountains -including enough time to adapt to the high before crossing the main ridges of the Himalaya!

Thank you guys!

The bike's not for me, I am helping a friend who got holidays in he last moment and had many things to sort so I help him with this.

I talked with him now. He arrived yesterday to Delhi and has bought a 2007 Bajaj for 25.000 rupees.

The problem now is that it seems Leh-Manali is now closed due to some landslides recently. It can take some days to clean the route.

Is there a realiable way of knowing if it really is closed and an aproximate schedule of reopening? I mean a website with roads information

I'd be surprised if there were such a website. The only way is to ride there and have a look. The Manali Leh road is the main supply line for the Indian military that has 100.000 soldiers around Leh under arms and must stay open during the short weather window. The Border Roads Organisation will be clearing the road as we write. The alternative is to ride via Srinigar in Kashmir.

It's much easier to get a small m/c across a landslide than a big truck or bus. Once in 2004 in the Spiti/Kinnaur valley 9 solders and me carried my Enfield across 300 meters of fallen rock and dirt!

And Chris is absolutely right: BRO is always working immediately to open the track asap. But -as long as the tunnel is not finished- to be 100% SURE that Rhotang-La is passable on a specific day unfortunately you have to be on site… (either Manali or Khoksar).

I know they're building a tunnel. Hope that doesn't means the old road will be forgiven by the roads organization once the faster alternative is open. I still want to ride my own bike to India and do the old highway!
