Wonders of Iran
Hi,
we plan a 4x4 trip to the middle east region. To be more specific: Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran.
Our main goal is the Pamir, but afterwards we want to spend the time in Iran. Do you have some good tips on what to do there.
Things like:
- Cultural places,
- Riding (horse or camel )
- Climbing routes / Boulder areas
- Hiking routes/Areas
- Desert tracks
Greatfully looking forward to your suggestions
Robert

Hi Monkfish
Do not miss:
Yazd
Shiraz
Isfahan
Small village of Gurmah in East as base for trips into Dassht E Kabir
To much to see and do to be able to write it all down. Try and get a Lonely Planet Iran which is as good as any.
Brilliant place to tour and full of brilliant people(incl police and army)

Monkfood, some of the highlights for me in Iran (and there were many) were Bam, Shiraz, Isfahan, Yazd and Mohamed's place in Toudeshk. The restored city of Bam is an incredible sight and well worth visiting in the east.
Another great area if you have the time is in Northern Iran. The mountain areas are spectacular. Caspian Tours (Farzin) & his homestay Khoone Geli recommended if you enjoy hiking and local hospitality. As with every country, it's the people who enrich the experience. I travelled solo on a 102 year old motorcycle from Nepal to Belgium 3 years ago, via India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey etc. Check out my blog or pick up a copy of my book, No Room for Watermelons. Enjoy your travels!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
