Aprilia Pegaso 650 vs Transalp 600
Hi!
Does anybody have experience on these bikes? I'm looging for a new (my first) adv bike and these bikes are on sale close to me. They are both from 90's and quite budget bikes.
So, which one would you recommend for a adv bike when riding on street is maybe 70/30 (asphalt/dirt) and real off-road/enduro usually only when necessary? I'm usually riding with luggage.
I'm mainly consern of two things: vibrations and low end torque. Those are difficult to change afterwards. So the question is maybe more: which engine would you prefere: Honda V2 600cc or Rotax single 650cc? And why?

What I have googled, I haven't found any reliability problems with that Rotax engine. The same is used in BMW F650GS.

Transalp.
Google F650 water pump failure, F650 chain failure, F650 regulator failure or F650 fork failure and you'll get the idea.

Why should I google problems with BMW when looking for Aprilia? It's true that they both have Rotax engine, but not exactly the same. What I have found is only problems with cylinder head gasket.

They are the same bike. BMW bought the design from Aprillia when they both realised they had no model suitable for the EU restricted class. BMW sold 20 times more, so highlight the failures.
You are obviously determined to buy it, so sorry we all gave the wrong answer.

You miht try looking at the newer Pegaso Trail 2006 to 2009 which use the Yam 660 single which go on forever.
I've had one for 7 years now and still love it. there are a few problems which happen to them as with any bike, but they are all simple and cheap fixes. thing like fuel pumps, ignition wires and corrosion to coil.
Will be much more agile off road than a transalp from just looks because it has a 19 inch front and sopked wheels. you can get some good off road rubber for them.
As any lardy 200kg+ bike, its never going to perform amazingly off road unless you are a pro but it isn't bad. will sit on a motorway all day too, but it it a tad buzzy.
I find everyone thinks they are a breakdown magnet, but I don;t think so. Yes I've had a few breakdowns but the bike is now 10 years old and is on 60 000 miles. Its worth a look!
