Smile Bought a WK400 Trail
Just bought a brand new WK400 Trail a couple of weeks ago after downsizing from a KTM990 Adventure R, and got to say so far so good. This year I travelled through thirty countries and covered about 15k miles on the KTM and while there is no doubting it's a fantastic bike, once the going gets tough you become aware of every kilogram, especially picking it out the mud!!

So far already been out on a couple of local tracks that would make me sweat on the KTM and the WK just breezed through even on the standard, more road orientated Kenda tyres.

I think this has the potential for a great Overlander but time will tell how reliable it is and how good the components are.

Just this weekend took my daughter on a local camping trip and it performed well. I have only covered about three hundred miles so far but the more I ride it the more it is growing on me

Please stay in touch about how you get on with it, I love the spec but also worry about what it will be like in three years time.

Many years ago one of the brain dead low lifes my brother used to (vaguely) know got done for nicking a bike (an RD250 Yamaha smoker) when, after hot wiring it, he carefully warmed it up outside the owners house before slowly riding off. He was a big bloke so the owner wouldn't tackle him directly but called the cops and they arrived at the end of the road in time to meet him leaving.

Sadly (for the IQ of the bloke involved) a true story.

Here is a link to the specs THE NEW TRAIL 400 - 400cc TRIALS BIKE FROM WK

It's made in China by a company called Shineray. This bike is sold in various countries and re-badged accordingly (search: Mash Adventure, Kougar 400R, Sineray X5)

WK400 Review
For anyone out there looking for more info on one of these bikes here is the link to a great review. When I did all my research before purchasing it was probably this review more than others that led me to take a punt.

Looks great for thew money and hopefully the long term reliability will be good.

Glenn G on another forum as you know Mac10biker is writing an epic trip report of his recent journey on the same type of bike.

I read that this bike uses a variant of Honda's xr400 engine. Is this so, and could it therefore be persuaded to squeak out a bit more than the positively weedy 27hp it currently does? Frankly my TTR250 squares up well against it, having better suspension and weighing 130ish kg. It does look the part though, and you can't buy new ttrs any more:-)

One of the positives of this bike is it actually feels and looks like a proper adventure bike. I have an XR400 that I could compare to this the same as the TTR250 but those bikes have uncomfy seats, pretty shit all day riding ergonomics, thimble sized tanks and you have to spend money to at least get a longer fuel range.

I certainly agree that the power output is weedy, the XR absolutely blows this away on acceleration and top speed, but travelling through Georgia and Russia this year I very rarely went above 70mph, and I think the ideal travelling speed (not inc.motorways) is in the 45mph-60mph range. Now I have filled the tank a few times I am getting about 65mpg which equates to about about 250 miles or a bit more from a tank. My KTM990 was getting about 150 miles on a tank and 35mpg!!

I honestly never thought I would step back to riding such a small bike but now I have 're-programmed' my brain to the riding style (and slower speeds) I am really starting to like this bike

Yip, all good. Now done about 700 miles since I bought it and after the initial "re-programming" from riding big bikes, it has become more and more enjoyable every time I ride it.

Checking the oil regularly and hasn't used a drop yet, and starts first time on the button every time

For what I paid I really can't find any faults (yet) with this bike

I have done a video review and will post a link once I get the chance to put it all together.

Glad to hear it still doing well. You could have made quite an astute move by buying when you did, think supply is drying up according to the post on the ABR forum, wouldn't be surprised if the price creeps up a bit in 2017.
